I believe the most interesting problems live between fields, not inside one. As a cellist, I became convinced music and the brain deserved to be one connected field. That belief led me through a PhD, into a neurotech startup betting the same insight could become real technology, and into a team decision to record EEG far beyond standard resolution, on a hunch there was more signal in the data than anyone had proven. Each bet took years: a real field, a real clinical product, and now AI surfacing patterns in a decade of data once dismissed as noise. I will close by playing live cello while my own brain response streams on screen. As AI takes over more technical execution, what becomes rare is you, whatever odd mixture of passions you carry alongside your engineering work. Stick with that other thing long enough to be good at it, and this is the moment to let it merge into what you build. There is room now for the weirdest combinations, mine included.
